Dr. Kristin Moilanen completed her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Pitt Parents and Children Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh for three years before she joined the faculty of the Child Development and Family Studies (CDFS) program at West Virginia University in August 2008. 

Dr. Moilanen's area of expertise is adolescent development and her research focuses on self-regulation, risk behaviors, and social relationships during the teen years. Dr. Moilanen was awarded with the WVU College of Education and Human Services Outstanding Researcher Award in 2016. Dr. Moilanen is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology.

As an associate professor at WVU, she teaches classes on lifespan development, adolescence, socio-emotional development, and research methods. She grew up near Flint, Michigan and enjoys traveling, reading fiction, baking sweet treats, and gardening in the backyard.
